Meet Miss GForrester's female detective 'Miss G' was among the first female professional detectives created and also the model for many that followed. 'Miss Gladden' has an ambiguous position with the police – sometimes working with them and other times investigating on her own. She is able to infiltrate households disguised as a maid, or a dressmaker, or a charity worker. The stories have a strong procedural feel about them – unusual for the time with her focus on deduction, examining the scene of the crime, looking for clues, application of science (anticipating Holmes by about twenty years), and even ballistics.
